Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that he, and his backroom staff, have to pick the team that they think are their form team.

And that included dropping Ryan Williams last Saturday from the starting eleven to the bench.

‘He’d had a bit of a dip,’ Warney said, ‘and looked mentally and physically drained so he was one of the unfortunate who got dropped. And they are going to have peaks and troughs because they are young men and they aren’t going to play every game amazingly well.

‘But his attitude was spot on and he didn’t sulk and when he came on he was really good which is what you want. You want people when they come on to prove why they should be in the team.

‘Willo has given me a nice headache coming into this weekend because when he came on he was really bright.

‘It’s not easy dropping people. This weekend I’ve got twenty-one fit pro’s and only eighteen can make the squad and only eleven can start.

‘What I want is characters who are honest with themselves. If someone is under performing and get pulled from the team they should look at themselves first and realise they didn’t play so well before coming to knock on my door.’
