The Referee chosen to officiate at Rotherham’s game at Saltergate on Saturday is….
STUART B ATTWELL from Nuneaton, Warwickshire
Stuart started at a local level rising from the NIC Nuneaton Sunday League, Midland Combination, Southern League and Nationwide Conference before joining the Football League list of assistant referees for the 2006-07 season.
After just 1 year he was promoted to the National list of Referees.
His first appointment was for Rotherham’s opening day game at Hereford United in August 2007.
He kept a ‘clean sheet’ by keeping his cards firmly in his pocket.
This is his only Millers game to date.
On May 19th 2008 Stuart was pronounced to be officiating the League Two Play-off Final between Rochdale and Stockport County at Wembley on May 26th 2008.
County won the game 3-2 in which Attwell booked 4 players, 2 from each team.
On the 25th of June 2008, he was promoted to the list of top flight officials in the Premier League, after just one season in the Football League. This made him the youngest ever Premier League referee at 25 years of age.
On 23rd of August 2008 he made his Premier League debut when he refereed Blackburn Rovers V Hull City, the game finished 1-1 with goals from Jason Roberts & Richard Garcia and one caution to Ian Ashbee of Hull City
