After helping Rotherham United hang on to their Championship status for another season even though Neil Warnock hasn’t definitely said he is staying with the Millers next season – or that he’s not – he is still putting in his twopenneth by wanting to help shape the squad.

‘There is no need for wholesale changes,’ the Millers Boss told The Advertiser, ‘but there is the need for a bit more quality here and there.

‘There are no emergency loans next year, so you’re going to need a minimum of three or four good players to supplement the squad who are of the right kind. They have to be able to fit in with the players who are already here.

‘We will lose Grant Ward. If I’m being honest I can’t see us getting him again next year. And although I can’t see him getting in Tottenham’s Champions League squad I would imagine the lad would want to test himself at a different club. Although, having said that, I’ve not written it off.’

To be honest I’d have been having a word in Grant Ward’s ear for a few weeks now telling him how hard it will be for him to get in the Spurs match day squad and how good his career has been since joining Rotherham, how happy he is here and how much the fans have taken to him. I’d certainly not be putting ideas of ‘he might want to go somewhere else’ in his head. He’s been a big player for us this season and could be an even bigger one next – I’d be finding a few extra pennies to sign Grant up.
