Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says he thought his side deserved the three points they got at the death this afternoon at the New York Stadium.

Speaking after the three-two win over Bury, Warney told Radio Sheffield, ‘I`m hugely disappointed with the goals we conceded but I think we deserved to win much more comfortably than we did.

‘We did miss a lot of chances but I was generally really pleased with the performance and even if we’d have drawn today I couldn’t have really criticised the lads intent to win football matches., ‘I`m hugely disappointed with the goals we conceded but I think we fully deserved the win in fact I thought we deserved to win much more comfortable than that.

‘If we get cut apart from really good plays then you have to accept that but to concede off a set-piece was really hard to take, especially when, at the time, we could have been four or more up.

‘But its a fun way to win a football match scoring late like that – then we are in the theatre and we try and keep the fans entertained until the last minute which isn’t good for my health!

‘I thought they all fought today and it’s great for Richie Towell to come on and score the winner. In fairness I thought my top performer was Darren Potter in the middle because he controls us really well while allowing the others to go on and Kieffer Moore was a handful. He leads the line excellently.

‘This team could achieve anything they wanted to if they believed a little bit. They are a really good group to work with and we have some really amazing personalities here.’

  • Strong belief in his team is best thing warne can give his players. Who knows they may start to believe in themselves

  • I’m sure a lot of people were sceptical about Warney’s emphasis on having the right “personalities” in the squad. Maybe they are realising how right he was! Effort, committment, passion, belief……long may it continue!
