Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says that Joe Newell deserved the contract extension he was offered and signed today.
The twenty-five year old midfielder signed on as a Miller for another twelve months, meaning he will stay at the New York Stadium until the summer of 2019.
‘Joe wanted it sorted out,’ the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield, ‘and so we’ve taken the year option on him which he is happy with.
‘Like everyone else here, he wants to play Championship football, so if we do go up this year then hopefully I can extend that contract.
‘He’s been brilliant this year and it’s my job over the summer to convince him to sign a longer contract, which I can’t see being a problem.
‘But at least I know, for now, he’s our player for at least fourteen months.’
