Rotherham United’s Caretaker Manager Paul Warne wasn’t really surprised that the appeal against RIchard Wood‘s red card was successful.

‘I wish the FA could vindicate a few other decisions too,’ Warney told Radio Sheffield, ‘but I was pleased with the decision.

‘I wasn’t surprised with it. Howard Webb text me and told me to appeal.’

Woody was shown a red card by Referee Tim Robinson after he’d given a penalty to Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday in time added on at the end of the game.

To be honest, in the stands, we’d seen a yellow card being shown and presumed it was to Richard Wood for the alleged foul but a minute later a red card was being waved. I thought I’d missed a second yellow and, wrongly, presumed the defender had said something to the ref. Apparently not. Wood was given a straight red and the yellow was shown to Joe Mattock (answers on a postcard for why).

At least it’s all been sorted now and Woody can play on Boxing Day. I just wonder if Mr Robinson will be pulled up for giving the red? (and if so, if I was the FA, I’d look at some other dubious decisions he gave to both teams during the game).
