Rotherham United’s caretaker Manager Paul Warne says every Rotherham fan in the ground on Saturday was supportive

‘I don’t like the modern way of starting games when you take a centre and go back to your goalkeeper, I wanted them to go on the front foot and I told them if they did that you’ll get the fans behind you from the off.

‘Frecks (Lee Frecklington) had a chance early on and I think it gave the fans confidence that the lads would perform.

‘This is how I see Rotherham United playing. If we go toe-to-toe with teams then I think we struggle and I think the foundations of this club is hard work and endeavour, determination and teamwork. And I think the lads give that and I think they have got quality and, as the game progressed, I thought they grew into the game. But initially I think they’ve got to win the fight and before the game I told them ‘this is our house and no-one is going to come here and beat us up’. I want them to play a physical game and if you can’t give anymore then nobody can ask for anymore. I think the lads did everything I asked them to do.

‘And every fan in the ground, unless you were in blue and white, were hugely supportive and it ended up being a good game and an exciting day at the theatre.’
