Rotherham United’s caretaker Manager Paul Warne told Radio Sheffield that today’s win felt ‘quite good.’

Speaking after the Millers first win since August Warney said, ‘The lads gave me everything they had and they’ll be exhausted come Tuesday which might be a problem trying to get them recovered for then. But I was proud of how they played. And I think everyone saw that at the end of the game, the subs included, the staff, everyone could see the joy at the final whistle. And I think the players appreciate what, as a staff, we’ve done for them.

‘You know they are good players and I’m very proud of them.

‘Lee Frecklington said he’d win for us today and I think everyone is really pleased. I was pleased for (Aimen) Belaid today. He’s not played for eight and a half months and I’ve been trying to keep him sane and as his fitness coach I’ve kept on top of him. He’s a great pro and deserved his chance.

‘I thought the back five were excellent today and gave the rest of the team a platform to play.

‘From my heart I wish we could have got a second goal but I’m over the moon with the win and really pleased with the clean sheet. Pricey (Lewis Price) has been excellent and been Campy’s (Lee Camp) number two all season and, mentally, I don’t know how ‘keepers do that. And he’s trained really well all the time.

‘We’re a good family club and all the staff care about the players. They aren’t commodities here. I love working here and I think the fans appreciate it when the lads put a real shift in. Even if we’d have conceded late on I still think they’d have been applauded off. The fans appreciate effort and, as a stand-in Manager, that’s what I want to see from my players.

‘Before they went out I told them to play like warriors and to make this a fortress and be hard and ugly to play against and I thought they were. To go in the dressing room after the game it was like we’d won the Cup Final.

‘I want to see the players run until they can’t run any more and I think they did that today. I’m a proud man.’
