Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told MillersPlayer that he felt ‘comfortable’ during last night’s game against Huddersfield Town.

‘I’m well aware now that it’s stressful being a football manager,’ Warney said, ‘but tonight is the most relaxed I’ve been. We set up in a positive vein and I told the lads I wanted them to go out and entertain the crowd and have a go and if we lose we lose.

‘I’m well aware of Huddersfield’s class and I was pretty proud of the way the lads were defending and limiting them to crosses in the box which I felt we defended well. I felt we put up a good fight. Huddersfield are in a good vein of form and think they believe they’re going to win and good luck to them.

‘I felt, for a change, that a bit of lady luck was shining down on me and that they weren’t going to score a third goal and I felt comfortable, well at least I wasn’t jumping around like a loony bin. It was difficult to swallow to concede so late on and in the dressing room afterwards it was hard for me to look them in the eyes. I’m hugely disappointed with the result but proud of the performance and I thought the throw-ins and free-kicks we were putting into their box was causing them problems. Perhaps we are a bit naive in the last minutes and there are some things that irritate me but you never get one hundred per cent perfection in team sport.

‘I thought Dexter (Blackstock) was really good when he went on and I knew he was going to cause them a problem in the air

‘We’ve got a few walking wounded and I need to reassess again for Saturday. We lost Wardy (Danny Ward) with an injury and I don’t know if he’ll be available for the weekend. Jon Taylor’s sore and I don’t know about him. I just hope we have some coming back.’

Warney also said that the elusive Carlton Morris won’t be available as he’s had a set-back on his injury

Asked if he thought it was the best performance since he took over, Warney thought for a bit then replied, ‘I can’t think of many good ones.’
