Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne expects striker Danny Ward to go on and have a great career.

But whether that will be with Rotherham or somewhere else we will have to wait and see what happens this summer.

The twenty-five year old is the Millers top scorer (so far) this season with twelve goals the last of those goals coming in the one-all draw at home to Birmingham last Saturday.

‘It’s always nice for a striker to score,’ Warney said to Radio Sheffield speaking about Ward. ‘Everything Wardy gives to the team, especially since becoming captain, is pretty admirable. He’s been playing out of position for me, wide of a four or a five as well as up top on his own or up top as a two. Whatever we ask him to do he does.

‘He’s a great pro to work for and I think he’ll go on and have a great career.

‘I’m glad for him that he’s scored goals because his work rate and the way he is around the place he deserves it.

‘I haven’t heard of a lot of interest in him as yet but once the season ends and the Agents and Managers have a couple of weeks off to re-focus I think the ‘phone will start ringing then. But only if an offer comes in near our valuation will we consider selling him. If someone comes in with a cheeky offer then we’ll just keep him for the season and get as many goals out of him as we can and it might be that he goes in January. He will be a good addition to any team but if he stays here I’ll be cock-a-hoop.

‘I think he’s had a good year, playing for a poor team really, that he’s scored as many goals as he has.’

Saying he’d like Tom Adeyemi, who is currently on loan from Cardiff City, to stay with the Millers next season, Warney said, ‘He’s a scoring midfielder and I think he will get attention from a few clubs. I’d like to think he’d stay, and I think he would, but we all know the finance of football and he wants to stay in the Championship. If he doesn’t stay in the Championship then I think we’ve got a good chance of keeping him.

‘He’s been great for us and he’s a great kid around the place as well. And they are the sort of pro’s you want here, the sort who want to do well for themselves but also do well for the team.’
