RUFC – Warne ‘Will Took His Goal Well’

|

Rotherham United’s only goal of the game today was scored by Will Vaulks which is his seventh goal of the season, five of those coming in the league.

‘Will took his goal really well,’ Millers Manager Paul Warne told Radio Sheffield tonight.

‘I was shouting at him in the last five minutes or so because he’s trying to score another one when I’m just happy for him to sit and the centre-halves want him to sit as well.

‘He epitomises the club really. He’s very talented and can play in loads of different positions. His work ethic and his will to win is better than anyone else. You know, in football you can be as fit as you want but you have to be mentally fit and that’s the sort of character he is and I think he gets the best out of everybody else.’

Always saying what a great group of lads he has, Warney went on to admit that he’s built them in the mold of himself.

‘I wanted a high energy team here which is why the lads I’ve signed are of a certain age. It was about getting the personalities right and we’ve definitely done that.

‘Bally (David Ball) is a much better footballer than I ever was and his work ethic for the team is unbelievable and, at times, he’s a defensive ten. Smithy (Michael Smith) just runs and harasses and gives everything he’s got. The two wingers we had today, Willow (Ryan Williams) is all energy and Tayls (Jon Taylor) and you can see how hard they work for the team.

‘All through the season I’ve told the players to play how I ask them to play then if they lose I can explain why. If you give your job lot and you still don’t win then I know the fans here will still clap you off because, above anything, they appreciate the effort here and I think that’s why Will has grown into the season and he’s been amazing. Willo has only just come to the club and Newy (Joe Newell) has had an amazing season, Kieffer Moore had an amazing start to the season for us then he left and Smudge (Smith) came in and has done really well. Ikie (Michael Ihiekwe) was good again today and I don’t know who I’m going to play at left-back, I’ve problems all over the park.’

Nice problems to have going into a play-off though!
