Rotherham United have Paul Warne to thank for the 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley yesterday at Don Valley as it was his last minute winner that gave them all three points.

The game looked to all and sundry like it was going to be a stalemate until Warne was on hand to put away the rebound after Ian Sharps had rattled the underside of the bar.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield, after the game, Warne said, ‘It was great to score the winner!’

Warne came on at half-time for Ryan Taylor and he admits he was disappointed not to start the game. ‘Every player is disappointed when they don’t start but I’m not stupid and I know Ryan Taylor and Tom Pope are good players. The gaffer wanted me to shake it up in the second half. I’ve never claimed to be a great player, but I do run around and make things happen.’

The thirty-six year old ran up the touchline in delight after scoring but said, ‘If I play against Derby on Tuesday and score I’ll have to wear my spikes and do a hundred metres on the track instead of up the touchline – I was knackererd!’
