A grinning Paul Warne told Radio Sheffield that he was ‘very proud of his lads’ after they secured a play-off spot this afternoon.
Speaking after the two-nil home win over Bristol Rovers, the Millers Boss said, ‘I think the lads looked really jaded today and we’ve played a lot, lot better than that. Bristol Rovers looked fresher than us, which is something I don’t normally say about my team, but we were tired throughout the pitch. But to win and keep a clean sheet as a Manager of a group of men I’m really proud.
‘Woody (Richard Wood) was excellent again. I don’t know how many times he got cracked on the head. Ikie (Michael Ihiekwe) played really well, both centre-halves were excellent today. Rovers put a lot of balls into the box but I felt comfortable that we’d always deal with them. They had one chance which Josh (Emmanuel) did well to tidy up. I’m really pleased with the way we defended and it’s nice get over the finishing line.
‘Smudge (Michael Smith) will be really pleased with his goal. His work rate in games is phenomenal and Lavs (Caolan Lavery) went on and was lively and got a goal as well, though I wish our second goal had been scored earlier because you could feel the tension in the ground.
‘I’m proud of what the lads have achieved and I’ve got a really good back room staff who give their lives for the football club. We haven’t achieved anything yet but we have given ourselves a chance to get promoted. We’ve got to deal with these last two league games which we can freshen up a little bit and then try and hit the play-offs football fresh and football fit and try and get through to the final.
‘I still want to win the game away at Plymouth and the game here against Blackpool but we don’t have the added pressure that we have to win and I have got the opportunity to give some other people minutes on the pitch.
‘At the start of the season, with some punters, we were the favourites to go down so I’m really pleased with what we’ve achieved.’
