Rotherham United went down to ten men on Saturday against Plymouth Argyle after Richard Wood was shown a second yellow just five minutes into the second half.

There doesn’t seem to be much dispute that the second yellow was indeed a yellow but when asked about the the defenders first yellow, Millers Manager Paul Warne gave a little moan then said, ‘I don’t want to hammer refs but I thought there were a lot of bad tackles.

‘There was one early on against Willo (Ryan Williams) when he was literally just wiped out and there was no yellow. From where I was for Woody’s first yellow I’m thinking it’s his ball to go for, it’s a bouncing ball and I was hugely disappointed with their bench’s reaction to that.

‘If we’re getting to the stage where people aren’t going to attack a bouncing ball we’re in trouble,’ the Millers Boss told iFOLLOW.

I just wonder how much the paying public – ie us, the fans – have got to put up with inconsistent refereeing. As well as watching live games I watch a fair amount of football on TV and it seems to be every game that a referee is getting a decision wrong, and often, though not every time, it’s a crucial decision.

I don’t mind if a referee has obviously thought ‘right I’m not booking a player for such-and-such a tackle or vice versa’ but when it’s I’m not booking one player for doing something which another player then gets booked for it’s can never be right. Can it?
