Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told Radio Sheffield that there could be a couple of new players in the squad before the window closes.

‘I’m pretty sure I’ll get one before the weekend,’ Warney said, ‘and probably one over the weekend and we might lose two before the window shuts.

‘I think I need to add something in the back line because we are conceding goals

‘I had someone ‘phone for one of my players yesterday, although not a formal bit, and although he isn’t in the team he’s still part of what we want to do here so rejected the offer.

‘Before the window shuts I’d expect a few more ‘phone calls.

‘There isn’t many players I want to leave and I do understand that some will be frustrated but in three weeks time they could be playing every week. I understand they want to play football but they have to understand that I’m in control of a squad of players and not just one.

‘I’m pretty confident with the squad I’ve got so if nothing happened before the window shuts I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. They are a really close group and that means a lot.’

Admitting that he was still interested in Sheffield Wednesday’s George Hirst, Warney said, ‘He’s a Sheffield Wednesday player and until I get the green light that he’s allowed out there’s nothing I can do. Until he’s available for loan my hands are tied but he would be a player I’d like to bring to the club but everyone else in Yorkshire would be the same.’
