Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says that his physio has done really well getting a mask fitted up for striker Michael Smith so quickly.

The tall striker joined the Millers from Bury last month and has scored twice in four appearances.

On Saturday he was kicked in the face by a high boot from an opposition player and after going off for treatment played part of the game with cotton wool stuck up both nostrils. After his nose bled again and he had to leave the field he came back before having to go off a third time when it was decided to substitute him.

Warney told iFOLLOW that Smith had had a fitting for a mask which he looks like playing in on Saturday.

‘We’re really pleased that the mask has been sorted early and he trained yesterday in it and had no issues.

‘There was only so many bloodied shirts we could use on Saturday and we couldn’t stop the bleeding.

‘After he’d cracked his nose his performance was still excellent but him having to go off and on, off and on was ruining the flow of the play and we’d got a strong bench so there was no issue with him coming off.

‘We’re really pleased with him.’
