Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told Radio Sheffield that he’s always been one of Anthony Forde‘s biggest fans.

In my eyes from being an average player, the twenty-four year old winger has suddenly come to life. These last few games he’s looked like a different player. Whether that’s because he’s involved all the time or that the team are doing well I don’t know but whatever it is it’s made people sit up and take notice of him. In fact, he was voted Vital Rotherham’s Man of the Match in our win on Tuesday night.

‘He’s always had the ability,’ Warney said, ‘but probably lacked confidence.

‘I think the best wingers of all time have always had that maverick bit about them like not being afraid to lose the ball whereas I think Fordey is really diligent and doesn’t want to give the ball away.

‘But he’s playing really well. His work ethic off the ball has been amazing and recently he’s had that real confidence and zing in his play.

‘The other night he’s picking the ball up on the half-way line and getting all the way to the by-line which is old school wing play.

‘I want my players to take player on and I want them to make mistakes because that means they are taking chances. I do know with Fordey if he makes a mistake he will do his best to get the ball back.

‘I don’t think he’s actually improved as a footballer but he’s now playing to his potential.’
