It had been called the ‘battle of the two Paul’s’ as Shrewsbury Town welcomed Rotherham United to the Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday afternoon with Paul Warne the Manager of the Millers and former Miller Paul Hurst managing the Shrews.

And it was Paul Warne who came away with all three points.

Warney thought his team should have perhaps scored more than the one goal, which came from skipper Richard Wood while Hursty told the Shropshire Star that it hadn’t been a ‘game for purists’.

‘The game was a scrappy affair,’ Hursty said, ‘but Rotherham were very professional. I’ve got my own thoughts on our performance levels so I’m not overly concerned.

‘We’re still in a fantastic position though we aren’t daft, we know we are top because of others not playing.’

He told Shrewsbury’s Official Site, ‘We had a bright start and the best chance with Shaun Whalley but we were slow to get organised and pick up second balls.

‘It was a difficult afternoon.’
