Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans was enjoying a dozen bottles of champagne after the win against Reading meant the Millers had secured their place for a second successive season in the Championship.

Meanwhile Royals Manager Steve Clarke was reflecting on his five months at the Madejski Stadium.

Speaking to Get Reading after the game, Clarke said, ‘You are now seeing a team and a squad that is in decay. We lack leaders on the pitch and you can see that the first response when something goes wrong is to stand away and find somewhere to hide on the pitch.

‘I can promise the supporters that next season will be better. They have to stick with us, they have to believe we know what’s wrong and we know what to do. It’s going to be a busy summer. That (relegation) won’t even be an issue next season, that what I’m trying to say to supporters. It’s not going to happen. Next season we won’t be near the bottom three.’

Speaking about the game at the New York Stadium, he carried on, ‘The crucial moment was always going to be the first goal and that came from a bad mistake by us. Then we lost the second goal and that made it very difficult. We kept going and you can’t say we gave up but we didn’t create much.’
