Millers v Torquay was much talked about as being a spring board for the game against Oxford at the weekend. So thankfully, it was a positive bright start from the men in red. The first 15 minutes saw Evans given a lot of the ball and his return seemed to have made a difference. Ben Pringle seemed to have been given more freedom to get forward than Schofield had in a formation that appeared to be 4-2-3-1.

orquay`s first real effort came after 20 minutes when Taylor made a smart save from Eunan O`Kane. After that, the Millers seemed to dictate a nice tempo to the game as well as showing patience when on the ball. It was against the run of play when a cross seemed to go between Raynes and Mullins for Mansell to score. Rotherham`s approach to the game remained positive and that was almost rewarded when an Alex Revel shot thundered against the post and Evans couldn`t capitalise on the rebound.

Half Time Millers 0 Torquay 1

The second half started with pressure again from Rotherham. Pringle continued to be a willing runner and made himself an outlet for his colleagues. Jason Taylor had a good header go over the bar, but what determination he showed to get there! At the back Mullins, when needed, was impressive, even finding himself the furthest Miller forward at one time. Revell on the other hand looked frustrated at being isolated by the formation at times. The pressure seemed to push Torquay further back and it seemed an equaliser was inevitable, whilst for their part seemed content to hold on. Manager Scott took Raynes off and put Creswell up front. That left an interesting back 3 of Mullins, Wood and Bradley. Toward the end, the visitors did break away on two occasions and could have easily sealed the game as Jarvis hit the bar and Ateneo blazed wide after Rhys Taylor save.

Applause at the end of the first half and boos at the final whistle. I think that was to do with a disappointing result after a good performance

I’ve been told I missed a good performance – shame we couldn’t get the points
