Rotherham United’s striker, Ryan Taylor, scored twice at Wembley Stadium yesterday which was his first goals in twelve months, but still said he was ‘gutted’.

Taylor’s goals came twice after the Millers had gone behind, and it would have been a fairy tale come true for the twenty-two year old who has taken some stick from his own supporters over the years (why, fans barrack their own players is a mystery to me but, it does happen), if he’d got his hat-trick. But it wasn’t to be. Ryan has been on loan at Exeter and came back a completely different person and player and was put straight back in the side in the play-off games against Aldershot.

Yesterday, he was one of the stars of the game and he told Dom Howson of The Star that he thought he did well to score the goals but was still gutted.

‘It’s a great achievement scoring two goals,’ Taylor said, ‘but we haven’t gone up so it doesn’t mean anything.

‘Their third goal knocked the wind out of us although, at the end, we piled the pressure on, but we weren’t good enough.

‘They put a lot of pressure on us but I thought everybody worked their socks off. It just wasn’t meant to be.’

Taylor praised the Millers fans saying, ‘They were loud and they pushed us on and gave us that extra edge but it just wasn’t enough.’
