Rotherham United’s caretaker Manager, Steve Thornber has been working with the club for seven years and says that he knows the players well.

Speaking to Les Payne of The Star about how the players have reacted to events over the past week, Thornber said, ‘The players have come through adversity in the past two or three years and have always come back stronger. I expect the same this time.

‘We’ve had a chat and we told them it would be a shame if they let it all go. There are no bad eggs here, they are all good pros and all focused on what we are trying to achieve and they want to continue doing well.’

Alongside Steve Thornber will be ex player and now chief scout, Alan Crawford, who has also coached at such clubs as Blackpool, Stockport, West Brom and Nottingham Forest. Paul Warne is also helping out, although Warney told Radio Sheffield that coaching isn’t really for him. ‘I don’t think being a manager or assistant manager is for me,’ he said, ‘I like being popular!’
