Rotherham United’s temporary man-in-charge, Steve Thornber took his first training session with the first team yesterday morning and says that he is pleased with the players response.

Speaking to the Official Site, Thornber, who was put in charge after Mark Robins and his backroom staff left for Barnsley, said, ‘We have some good professionals at this club. They were buoyant after the win on Saturday and bright in training. There is enough characters in the dressing room not to let the good start to the season slip.’

Thornber also said that the temporary set-up of him, Alan Crawford and Paul Warne is working well. ‘It’s good to have Alan around – he’s been working well with the ‘keepers. Warney is a character and gets the lads going. He is on both sides so he knows when to have a laugh and when to be serious.’

Earlier today, Barnsley announced that ex Millers, John Breckin, Steve Taylor and Nick Daws have joined the Championship team although there is still some compensation problems to work out between the clubs over Mark Robins.
