Rotherham United v Oxford United

Nothing over special in that you might think.

OK, it’s the first game of a new season – we’ve been without League football for three months, for some they’ve dragged while others have managed to find football to watch around the country or on television.

We’ve had the pre-season friendlies and have had a chance to see the new players that Andy Scott has brought in over the summer.

But, for us Millers fans tomorrow starts the final season away from Rotherham. At last, we can see a light at the end of the tunnel and, with a new ground just round the corner, we have something to look forward to.

In my opinion it was a pity that we ever moved to Don Valley – it’s a soulless place and was never made for professional football – but it has been our home for the last three years and, as we go into our last year there, we may even start to look back on it with a bit of affection (though I do only say ‘might’!)

I really think it’s imperative that we leave Don Valley knowing that we will go into our new stadium – whatever it’s called – in League One. The Chairman wants it, Andy Scott and his management team want it and it’s probably up to us to, the fans, to show the players how much we want it.

So let’s use our last season at the stadium to shout our hearts out, starting today against Oxford.

Sing Up, Shout, Cheer and let’s brace ourselves for our best season in Sheffield!
