Rotherham United’s Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas says that they won’t be speaking to the five out of contract players until a new Manager has been installed.

The five players who have been offered new contracts are Leon Best, Kirk Broadfoot, Matt Derbyshire, Stephen Kelly and Richard Wood.

‘We are at different stages with different players,’ Mr Douglas told The Advertiser, ‘and we are conscious we need to get a new manager in place very soon but we don’t want to say to him ‘there are five players we have signed on your behalf.’

‘We know they are all really good lads and we would at least like to give the new manager the chance to consider them.

‘We have made them offers and rather than go too and fro on those offers we will wait until we get a new manager and have that conversation then. We haven’t lost any of our desire to re-sign them but we want the endorsement of the new manager before we plough on.’
