RUFC – Striker on his surprise return

Rotherham United striker, Ryan Taylor said there was no one more surprised than him that he was included in the team who drew nil-nil with Bradford City at Don Valley last night.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the game, the twenty-two year old said, ‘I got a call down about two minutes before the kick-off so I came down and got ready.`

Ryan got the call after Marcus Marshall pulled a hamstring in the pre-game build up. Ryan has been out of the side with a broken foot, that he did on the first day back at training after the summer break.

Asked how he`d prepared, he said, ‘My preparation wasn`t brilliant. I`d had thirty minutes in a reserve game and trained a couple of days, had a day off and then trained another day and I think I`m probably about eighty or eighty five per cent fit. I think if I`d been one hundred per cent fit I`d have scored the header that went wide just before the end of the game but I was just happy to get back on the pitch. Hopefully I`ll play some part in the game on Saturday. Tom Pope has done well since he got back in but I`m up for it and hopefully I`ll play some part in the game on Saturday.`

Manager, Ronnie Moore told Radio Sheffield that he doubted Ryan would start the game on Saturday but he would, if everything is OK, get a place on the bench.

It would appear that Ryan didn`t have his own boots as, when he came off the bench with fifteen minutes to go, he had to borrow Nick Fenton`s boots, which he said he wasn`t really used to wearing. ‘They didn`t really fit,` he said.
