Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne told iFOLLOW that he started asking questions about new signing Michael Smith after he came off the subs bench against the Millers for Bury in September.

‘He came on here (at the New York Stadium) and I was asking who he was because I was really impressed with what I saw,’ the Millers Boss said. ‘He took our centre-halves where they didn’t want to go.

‘I spoke to former team mates and managers of his and went to meet him and was really keen on him so it’s great news for us.

‘Smith is mobile centre forward, an athletic lad and, with the amount of balls we put in the box for him, I think he will score goals here. The way we play I want energy up the pitch and I need the top two to hold the ball and bring other players in to play. This is why I’ve brought him into the club.

‘He’s obviously a replacement for Kieffer (Moore) because it’s a centre-forward coming in for a centre-forward but that’s where the similarity ends. He’s coming here to compete for a place up the top of the pitch.

‘He’ll be a good addition to our squad come the weekend.’
