Rotherham United have signed Michael Smith from Bury for an undisclosed fee, subject to EFL ratification

The 6′ 4” striker came through the Youth ranks with Wallsend Boys Club before starting his professional career in 2010 with Darlington.

After a loan spell with Workington, Michael joined Charlton Athletic in August 2011 but less than five months later found himself back out on loan at Accrington Stanley. He also had loan spells with Newport, Colchester and AFC Wimbledon.

In 2014 he moved to Swindon where he spent two years and had his most games for. While at the County Ground he went out on loan to Barnsley and Portsmouth, eventually signing for Pompey in August 2016. Another loan spell saw him join Northampton Town in January 2017.

In August 2017 Michael signed a two year deal at Gigg Lane where he’s scored twice in twenty-three games.
