Rotherham United ended the day seven points in front of Millwall who are in that third spot of the relegation places.

Speaking to midfielder Richie Smallwood after the game Radio Sheffield`s Rob Staton asked him how significant today`s win over Brighton and Hove Albion was.

‘It`s massive` the former Middlesbrough player said. ‘After the disappointment of not getting anything from the Sheffield Wednesday game today was a great result and great performance.

‘We played some good football at times today and hit them on the counter a couple of times. It was a cracking atmosphere and I think it was on par to the Preston play-off game last season.

‘I always said that if we can stay up then it would be a bigger achievement than when we won promotion to the Championship.

‘I think the second half at Birmingham was similar to the ninety we played today and being games in quick concession has helped.

‘We want to get the next win as soon as possible and as soon as the pressure is off we can start to push on and get as high as we can.

‘We`re not quite there but we are all confident and I think one more win should do it.`

Speaking about himself he said he`s always tried to be consistent saying, ‘If you don`t strive to be the best you can play then, with all the players coming down from the Premier League and abroad, you aren’t going to play. And, as a footballer, you want to play and I want to keep improving as a player and stay in that starting eleven.`

The next game is against his former club Middlesbrough with the twenty-four year old saying, ‘I’ve still got friends down there and I look for their result. I think they will be there or there-abouts at the end of the season. Their home form is fantastic and I think they’ve only conceded seven or eight goals there which is quite remarkable but hopefully we can stick a few past them and make it a good game next week.`
