Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans has told the Gazette Live that he won’t be renewing his interest in midfielder Richie Smallwood

Middlesbrough have already turned down one – and it would seem the only – offer from the Millers with the Millers Boss saying he is now looking elsewhere.

‘We made a bid for Smallwood,’ Evans said, ‘but that was seven weeks ago. It was rejected and we made other plans.’

Richie, who helped the Millers to the Championship when he scored the last Rotherham penalty in the League One Play-Off Final at Wembley, is hoping to cement his place in the first team at the Riverside Stadium and said, ‘I  believe in my ability and I believe I should be in the Middlesbrough team.’

Steve Evans is now in Scotland with this squad where they have a number of pre-season friendlies planned – and, who knows, maybe the Gaffer is having a look at some players there.
