Rotherham United fans have been having their say about the name of the new ground, so it’s only right that Manager, Andy Scott tells us what he thinks of the New York Stadium.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, Scott said, ‘I spoke to Tony (Stewart) a few weeks ago and he told me the name and the background behind the stadium and I think it will be one of those names that will grow on people once they realise the heritage and the history behind it when it will all make sense. I’m sure some fans will take it on board and others won’t but it’s where we are going to be playing and where our place of work is. The Chairman has had a long hard think about it and put a lot of thinking behind why he wanted to name it that.

‘I think people will initially think ‘what’s all that about’ but it might get people interested in the club and certainly the stadium will attract people. It’s a fantastic facility and, hopefully, there will be a good link up with people in New York and maybe we can progress that line of thinking.’ Smiling, Scott carried on, ‘I’ve spoken to the Chairman about a little visit over there to help connections so we’ll see ?!’

Talking about the new stadium, which is rapidly progressing, Scott said, ‘All the players and the staff are going to go down there in the new year. It’s important, now that it’s all coming together, to recognise where the club’s going and what we’re about and our ambitions and to show them that we mean business. And, if they knuckle down and if they want to be here it’s certainly going to be a fantastic place to play football. It should be inspiring. It looks like it’s going to be a terrific place to go and watch football and to run out there for the first game of the season next year will be a fantastic atmosphere and every player should want to be part of that.’
