Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott says that he feels that Johnny Mullins is close to a first team return.

Mullins, out since April with a knee injury, played seventy minutes for the reserves at the beginning of the week to start his comeback trail and is hoping to play in next weeks game against Hull.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, Scott said, ‘He was excellent and it was good to have him back. He didn’t want to come off on Monday but we didn’t want him to get little niggles because he’d played too long. He’s as close as he can be to being back and the only thing he’s missing is game time. But, he’s a good enough player to get himself through games and with his experience he’s vital for us.

‘The fitness side that we’ve been doing with him is first class and if he’s needed we’ll use him. He’s really fit, strong and powerful and he’s confident, which is important.

‘We’ve got to give Johnny a lot of credit for his mental attitude especially through the close season when you’re on your own working. It was painful what he had done and, initially, the rehab is painful too. Denis (Circuit) is very good with Johnny and knows how to get the best out of him. They’ve got a very good relationship and I think Denis has been a major contributing factor to getting Johnny back but he wouldn’t have come back this quickly if it wasn’t for his mental strength.’
