Rotherham United Manager, Mark Robins, was absolutely over the moon with his players after the Cup game against West Brom last night.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield he said, ‘We gave them a real good game and made them look ordinary at times. We got our noses in front with a magnificent goal but then we stopped defending and I was disappointed at the end, but that’s me being me. We passed the ball well and created chances and scored great goals. And the players should come out of this game with plenty of confidence because the majority of their players were Premiership players last season and we’ve come here and passed the ball as well as they have. We’ve caused them problems with our balls in and the way we attacked the ball from set pieces.’

Speaking about double goalscorer, Tom Pope, his manager said, ‘His workrate is phenominal. I’ve always said he’d score goals and I’m pleased for him because it was weighing on his mind. He might look a bit cumbersome but he can certainly finish – his first goal was a great goal and his second was outstanding.

‘I thought West Brom’s first goal was offside because he’s stood in front of our ‘keeper. But, heads didn’t go down and we’ve come back to one apiece, gone two-one, then two apiece and then got our noses in front. The two goals they got in extra time were disappointing ones to concede but, at the end of the day, it was a magnificent effort.’

Robins went onto talk about the travelling fans saying, ‘The supporters were absolutely superb, really vociferous tonight and it spurred the players on.’
