Doncaster Reserves 0 Rotherham Reserves 4

A strong Rotherham United Reserve side ran out four-nil winners this afternoon against Doncaster Rovers Reserves at Cantley Park.

Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jerry Yates both had early chances with Rovers’ ‘keeper James Leverton making a good save from Clarke-Harris. The Millers went ahead on thirteen minutes when Yates saw his shot hit one post, then the other before rolling into the bottom corner. Joe Newell thought he was going to score but a Rovers defender cleared off the line before Semi Ajayi did well at the other end to head a cross to safety. Just after the half-hour mark Clarke-Harris, who was causing problems to the Doncaster defence, went down under pressure and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot which the tall Rotherham striker duly took and scored. With half-time approaching Richard O’Donnell in the Millers’ goal did well to save from a Ben Khemis free-kick.

Just minutes after the start of the second half Rotherham went further in front after Mason Warren got away from his marker and sent an excellent ball for Anthony Forde who said ‘thank you very much’ and slotted it into the back of the net. James Leverton came out to deny Alex Bray after he’d been set up by Joe Newell before Bray came provider sending the ball to Ben Wiles who sent his shot over the crossbar. The visitors made three substitutions with Lewis Murr coming on for Newell, Kuda Muskwe replacing Forde and Semi Ajayi making way for Akeem Hinds. On seventy-two minutes Warren tried his luck from twenty yards out and saw his shot fly into the top corner to make it four-nil. Rovers had a couple of shots in the final minutes of the game but O’Donnell was equal to them.
