York City Reserves 0 Rotherham United Reserves 1

Rotherham United Reserves recorded their first win of the season this afternoon when a Fabian Bailey was the only goal of the game away at York City.

Long term injured Kirk Broadfoot started his comeback in the game playing forty-five minutes with the team starting the game with a mixture of first teamers and Academy players.

It was a cold foggy afternoon at Wiggington Road where the hosts started the brighter when Jake Charles warmed the hands of Millers ‘keeper Laurence Bilboe early on. Scott Fenwick then saw a shot go over before Aidan Connolly put a shot inches wide of the post. At the other end only a good block from Tyler Walton stopped Jerry Yates opening the scoring for the visitors before a Jake Forster-Caskey corner found the head of Kadu Muskwe who headed wide before a curling shot from Yates went just wide.

Minutes into the second half City gave Kadu Muskwe too much room but the Millers forward couldn’t quite get a good shot away but minutes later the same player thundered the ball towards what looked like a certain goal only for Luke Simpson to pull off a superb one-handed save. Jake Charles managed to skip through the Millers defence on sixty-five minutes but put his shot over with just Bilboe to beat but the Millers were proving just too difficult to break down. And with twenty minutes to go the dominance paid off when a Mason Warren free-kick on the edge of the area came back off the woodwork Fabian Bailey was there to stab the ball home from close range. Reece McGuinley did well in the final minutes of the game to get a ball to Muskwe but he put his shot over the crossbar before Jerry Yates brought off a good save from Simpson. York came close to an equaliser in the final minutes of the game but Bilboe saved well from Luke Woodland.
