Zipadeedoodah has been at his stats books again…
The Referee chosen to officiate Rotherham’s game v Rochdale at Don Valley this Saturday is….

MR DARREN DRYSDALE from Lincolnshire

Born on 18th February 1971, Darren started Refereeing in 1988 and progressed through the Northern Alliance and the Northern Premier Leagues.
He made the Football League assistant referee list in 1996 and 2 years later joined the Premier League list.
In 2000 he was made assistant referee for the last FA Cup final at the old Wembley between Chelsea and Aston Villa.
This led him to be promoted to the FIFA assistant referee list later that year.
He finally became a Football League referee in 2004.

Darren has taken charge at 3 previous Millers games, with none more intense than his first time in November 2005, when he reffed our FA Cup 1st round game v Mansfield Town.
As all Millers fans are painfully aware, we lost this tie 4-3 to a final minute goal from former player, Richie Barker, his 2nd of the game.
However, Darren was to play a major part in this tie by handing out 7 yellows and 2 reds.
He booked Rotherham players, Martin Butler and John Mullin for unsporting behaviour and Michael Keane and Phil Gilchrist for dissent.
Mansfield players, Gus Uhlenbeek, Joe Hjelde (both unsporting behaviour) and Simon Brown (dissent) also went into Darren’s book.
Then in the 90th minute, just prior to Barker’s winner, Keane and Uhlenbeek were both ordered from the field for violent conduct after clashing.

Darren’s other, more sedate, Millers games were…
October 2006….Port Vale 1 Rotherham 3
4 yellows….Stefan Moore, (Vale) Lee Williamson, Justin Cochrane (Millers) all unsporting behaviour, and Will Hoskins (Millers) for dissent.

September 2007….Rotherham 0 Darlington 2
4 yellows….Graham Coughlan, (Millers) Ricky Ravenhill, Micky Cummins, Neil Austin (Darlington) all for unsporting behaviour.

This season so far, Darren has taken charge of 5 games, showing 15 yellows and just 1 red.
This was to Walsall’s Michael Ricketts in their 2-1 home defeat to Darlington in the Carling Cup.
Ricketts had given the Saddlers an early lead before being sent off after 38 minutes for violent conduct.

Darren’s Seasonal Record is
2004-2005 Games 27 Yellows 63 Reds 3
2005-2006 Games 32 Yellows 108 Reds 9
2006-2007 Games 21 Yellows 61 Reds 5

After Saturday’s ref showed yellow cards to Millers players right, left and centre, for nothing much, I hope this one is a lot better!
