The man in charge of our game on Saturday at Don Valley will be …
Robert Lewis from Shropshire
Rob got into refereeing by having to run the line for the Sunday side he coached and he says he was soon ‘picked up’ to be a linesman at Lilleshall Sports Centre for National School games.
Rob is quite infamous as the assistant who didn’t see Roy Carroll retrieve the ball from a good yard over the line after a shot from Spurs’ Pedro Mendes had been fumbled by the ‘keeper.
Rob actually worked his way up to be a League referee some years ago and officiated at nearly fifty games before a lengthy injury cost him his place on the National List.
Rob was in charge of our League Two encounter with Northampton at Don Valley in November last season, where the Millers threw away a two goal lead to end up holding on for a point. Ryan Taylor opened the scoring on four minutes and fifteen minutes later Marcus Marshall doubled the lead. But, before the first half was over Abdul Osman and Andy Holt had scored a goal each to level the scores. Jamie Annerson, Mark Bradley and Kevin Ellison got yellow cards for the Millers that night while Andy Holt and Marcus Hall were booked for the visitors.
Rob was also in the middle for our game this season at Northampton. Again the game was a draw with a goal on two minutes from Gareth Evans for the Millers was ruled out on twenty-four minutes when Conrad Logan didn’t deal with a cross from Lewis Young and the ball spun out of his arms and over the line for an equaliser. Westwood and Niven were booked for the Cobblers and for the Millers Logan, Danny Schofield and Luke Foster.
