Rotherham United Manager Neil Redfearn told Radio Sheffield that his first week at the New York Stadium had been really good.

‘Everyone at the clubs been really helpful,’ the new Manager said, ‘and have helped me settle in quickly.

‘The players are really upbeat and positive. We’ve now got to get ourselves into a place where we can settle things down and be a little bit more consistent. And we’ve got to try and find that formula going forward that suits the majority and become a force in the Championship.

‘I’ve spoken to the players as a group and as individuals and the message is that this is now a clean slate, a new start and an opportunity for players to really show what they are capable of. It’s going to be a different way of playing and I want to give players different options while getting the best out of them.

‘You know this is a tough division and we’ve got to become an established Championship side. We’ve got to be tougher, more resolute, difficult to play against. We’ve got to have options going forward, encourage individuals to put their own stamp on things going forward and that will take a little bit of time although the idea is to get things in place pretty quickly and to work out the strengths of the group and give them an opportunity to go and apply those strengths.

‘This initial bit is going to take time but we know we haven’t got a lot of that because we want to start picking points up. We’ve got a lot of games coming up and it’s going to be a really tough week – three games in a week is a really tough ask but they are games that are going to be really good to play in. The chances are I’m going to have to utilise the squad to its full and the message is that everybody is going to be involved.

‘The boys all understand that I can only pick eleven and some are going to have to fight to get back in but I have no favourites because they’re all favourites.’
