Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans isn`t one to be critical of the officials – not much! – but once again he thought the referee, Oliver Langford, had a poor game yesterday.

And, he wasn’t the only one. We`ve had some really poor officials over the last few weeks and, I know us fans are going to be biased, but things do not seem to have been going our way.

We were discussing this before the game yesterday and it was said, by more than one person, that maybe the manager`s reputation went before him and the ref`s were harder on the team because of this. I couldn’t disagree with this, but if that is the case then it`s simply not fair is it?

I thought the sending off of Mitch Rose was a pretty poor decision yesterday. Although the pitch wasn’t too bad – and the ground staff at Exeter have to be commended on getting the game on at all with the bad weather in Devon of late – it was still obvious that the players were going to be sliding in to tackles probably more than they would on a drier pitch. I really do think the referee should have taken the poor conditions into consideration on this one.

‘We were looking forward to this game because Mr Langford is a good official,` Steve Evans told Radio Sheffield, ‘but I don`t think he`s had the best of afternoons.

‘Mitchell Rose is eighteen years old and he hasn’t got a bad bone in his body. My sixteen year old daughter kicks harder than him! A red card? Do me a favour.

‘Let me say that when we arrived here I didn`t think the pitch was one hundred per cent playable but enormous credit has to go to the Exeter ground staff who were on it from the moment we got here.`

If you were there yesterday what did you think of the sending off decision. Or what do you think of the refereeing this season? Tell us here on Vital Rotherham…
