Rotherham United’s Assistant Manager Paul Raynor says that striker Matt Derbyshire will only get better and better.

The Millers striker scored the first goal in the two-one win over Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat this afternoon and could have had more with Rayns saying, ‘We missed Matt for quite a portion of pre-season so we are easing him back in.

‘He’ll feel the benefit of having seventy-five minutes today and he got seventy minutes at Alfreton so he’s getting there.

‘We’ve got another seven days to get him fit for Derby and he’s working very hard and looking sharper and sharper and but for a linesman`s flag in the first half he’d have got himself a couple of goals today. He’s a predator in the box and he works very hard for the team and being the typical goalscorer that he is he nicked one of Jordan Bowery, who also did well today, and got himself off-side.’

Matt joined the Millers at the end of May from Nottingham Forest saying that he wanted to show the fans how hard he would work for the team – well, I think he showed that today and, if I was in charge I’d definitely start him alongside Revell in the game at Derby on 9th August. (And I’m sure Steve Evans won’t take a blind bit of notice of what I say!)
