Although Rotherham United`s Assistant Manager Paul Raynor saw a lot to please him in the loss to Leicester City he said the friendly was really about getting minutes under the belts of the players.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the pre-season friendly at the New York Stadium, Rayns said, ‘We made a multitude of changes at half-time because we needed to give the boys game time.

‘Some of the lads will be pleased with their performances tonight and some could have done a little bit more but it was a good solid workout against a very good Leicester team. Sloppiness cost us at times while Leicester kept the ball very well and while we didn’t give them a multitude of chances when those chances came along they took them.

‘There were a lot of pluses tonight, some negatives and there are things to work on.

Asked about who might play in the opening game of the season on Saturday at Derby Rayns replied, ‘We know what we want to do and we know whose looking sharp in training and in the games and the Manager will have things clear in his mind. The Manager has just said in the dressing room if a player deserves a shirt and it fits in with the way we want to play then it will happen. It`s not about who you’ve played for or what you’ve done or about egos. It`s about what`s right for Rotherham United.`
