Rotherham United travel to the Ipro Stadium on Saturday and ahead of our clash we spoke to Derby fan and Vital Derby Ed, Mike C, who kindly answered our questions.

After missing out on a play-off place on the last day of last season do you think you can get a top six finish this season?

I`d like to think so, even with that run of relegation type form from March onwards we were still in with a shot on the last day until we capitulated to Reading. We`ve invested heavily in experience in the squad and Bradley Johnson looks like he could be the missing piece that gels everything together in midfield. Having said that until we`re mathematically in or out there will be no chicken counting after last season!

What were your thoughts when the club brought in Paul Clement in the summer? And were you surprised that Steve McClaren was sacked?

Not a huge surprise looking back as there were rumours about Clement for a while before it happened and they must have had him lined up prior to deciding on McClaren. The shocking loss of form and lack of plan b weren`t good but the main issue was his refusal to rule himself out of the Newcastle job. Mel Morris was rumoured to be heavily involved in that decision and the appointment of Clement and he has since taken over as chairman so it`s entirely possible.

Clement is unproven as a manager but has the coaching pedigree to suggest he`ll be able to make the step up. He`s been heavily backed financially but talk from the club is that he`s under no pressure to go up this season. You can see the impact he has made and we`re slowly picking up some form so things are looking up at the moment.

Our meeting last season was the first game of the season, has your team changed much since then?

In terms of personnel we`ve got virtually a whole new midfield but the main change is in playing style. We still usually go 4-3-3 but in contrast to McClaren`s attack minded philosophy we are a lot more pragmatic this season. We look far more solid at the back but that`s tempered with not scoring as many goals, Wolves aside, but hopefully this will start to change.

Which player do you think will cause the Millers problems this weekend?

Chris Martin is the obvious one but George Thorne has been playing well recently and can run the game from midfield for us so he’s really the man you need to stop playing to have success against Derby at the moment.

If there was one Rams player from the past you would like to bring back who would it be?

For me it`d be Igor Stimac. He signed near the start of our promotion campaign under Jim Smith in `95 and was top class from the word go. He was good and he knew it but without being arrogant (well, maybe a little). He brought a swagger to the side, we`ve got a solid defence at the moment but I think we maybe lack that ultimate level of self belief you get from playing at the very top level.

Prediction for the game?

I`m hoping for three points. I think it`ll be a tight game so I`m going for a 2-1 win for us.

Thanks for taking time out to answer these for us Mike. And, apart from Saturday and a Saturday in March, Good Luck for the rest of the season!
