Rotherham United have, what The Advertiser describes as, a seventy-nine year old millstone round their necks.

Under a deal struck, with former board Millers 05, the current directors have to hand over what is being called a ‘family package’ to the Booth family, who the club rent the ground from.

This ‘family package’ consists of free advertising, four match tickets in the directors box and twenty-two other tickets around the ground, four FA Cup Final tickets (which are currently being bought by the club itself), ex chairman Ken Booth being honorary president of the club for life, use of the clubs physiotherapist all of which amounts to tens of thousands of pounds. And this package, described as ‘madness’ by financial director, Giles Brearley, will continue until the 2080’s.

And, it is understood, that these privileges, will pass down to Mr Booths sons on his death.

Under the Millers 05 agreement the Booth family own the ground, the Rotherham United Suite and Hooton Lodge training ground.

Mr Brearley said he thought the former board of directors were ‘very naive.’
