As the Millers get ready for their long trek down to Gillingham let’s have a quick look at what was happening on this day in the past

27 February 2017

A year ago today the Millers were getting over a four-two loss away at Brentford which left them stranded at the bottom of the Championship with just seventeen points and a goal difference of -45.

Also on this day we found out that Dominic Ball had had his loan spell at Peterborough cut short after having a disagreement with manager Grant McCann.

27 February 2016

On this day two years ago Neil Warnock got his first win as Rotherham Manager with the Millers beating Brentford two-one at the New York Stadium. Matt Derbyshire had put the hosts one up on twenty-nine minutes but two minutes before the break Alan Judge equalised after Lee Camp had originally saved his penalty, which was a harsh decision in the first place. Danny Ward saw Bees ‘keeper Button make a brilliant save by tipping a shot over the crossbar but from the resulting corner Ward made it two-one to the Millers.

After the game a delighted Neil Warnock said that ‘one to eleven’ of his players ‘played their part’ in a game that saw Jerome Thomas and Leon Best make their debuts.

As the Millers were getting ready to welcome Millwall to the New York Stadium Millers Manager Steve Evans that it was an important time at the club having four of the next six games at home.

Danny Ward, who had joined the Millers the previous month, said the game was a ‘six pointer’ while loanee Jack Hunt was telling us that the previous five games had been ‘tough’.

Skipper Craig Morgan was telling us that he hoped to still be a Miller next season with the club saying that there would be no contract talks until the Millers knew where they would be next season.

27 February 2014

Four years ago the Millers had a couple of injury problems with Michael O’Connor suffering a slight back strain and Wes Thomas having a thigh problem. Mark Bradley was also in the treatment room suffering from a hip injury.

27 February 2012

After starting his first game for four months two days previous away at Bristol Rovers, Andy Warrington said he was ‘pleased to be back’. He also said that he ‘loved Rotherham United’ but didn’t know what would be happening at the end of the season.

27 February 2011

On Vital Rotherham we were discussing ‘The Lawnmower’ which appeared to be Adam Le Fondre’s new goal celebration. He scores, the players go up to him, stand in a line and appear to be starting up a lawnmower and tottering off with it – no one had a clue why!

27 February 2010

Eight years ago today the Millers got a one-nil away win at Burton in League Two with Adam Le Fondre scoring seven minutes into the second half.

‘We could have had four or five in the second half,’ Manager Ronnie Moore said after the game.

Midfielder Josh Walker, who had only joined that morning from Middlesbrough, played the full ninety minutes with Moore saying, ‘he did alright but I think there’s more to come from him.’

27 February 2007

On this day in 2007 the Millers suffered a two-one defeat at Millmoor to Swansea City. Pawel Abbott scored his first goal for the Swans on twenty minutes with Lee Trundle making it two-nil just after the hour mark. A superb Martin Woods free kick in time added on at the end of the game couldn’t save the Millers from a defeat which was paramount in the sacking of Manager Alan Knill just a couple of days later.

27 February 2006

Twelve years ago today the cash-strapped Millers were given the backing of the towns rugby side The Titans. On the brink of relegation AND going out of business all together the Titans backed the Millers with Andre Bester, their head coach, telling the club’s website: ‘For us it is very important that there is a good rugby club and football club in Rotherham. It is the cornerstone of what Rotherham has been built on. It would be disastrous if we lost the club.’

27 February 2001

On this day in 2001 a cold Tuesday night game at Millmoor saw five goals in a game against Colchester. The visitors struck first on thirty-five minutes from Gavin Johnson but Mark Robins and Dave Artell made it two-one to the Millers on the forty-eighth and fiftieth minute. Joe Keith equalised for Colchester but a Paul Hurst goal six minutes from time gave the Millers all three points in this Division Two game.
