Let’s have a quick look back at what was happening with the Millers on this day in the past.

15 May 2015

On this day last year we were listening to the rumours that the Millers were interested in striker Joe Garner from Preston North End, Nadir Ciftic a Turkish midfielder who is currently playing for Dundee United his central-midfield team mate Jon Souttar, Rodolph Austin another central-midfielder who was released by fellow Championship side Leeds United at the end of the season and Bolton’s Rob Hall who can play on the wing or up front.

Chairman Tony Stewart was telling us that the New York Stadium would be extended and work would probably take place during the season.

Mat Sadler, who the Millers let go at the end of the season, joined Shrewsbury Town.

15 May 2014

On this day two years ago Rotherham United booked their place at Wembley in the League One Play-Off Final. After drawing one-all at Deepdale, Preston North End came to the New York Stadium and went one up on sixteen minutes with a Paul Gallagher goal. But eight minutes later the Millers fans were on their feet when Wes Thomas equalised and again ten minutes later when Lee Frecklington put the hosts two-one up. A Kieran Agard goal on sixty-seven minutes made sure and the Millers were on their way to Wembley.

15 May 2013

On this day in 2013 striker Ian Sharps, Lionel Ainsworth, Nicky Hunt and Kayode Odejayi were told they could find other clubs. All four had another year left on their contract although all with the exception of Odejayi, have all been out on loan this season.

15 May 2012

We found out on this day four years ago that the club had requested that the first game of the season be at the New York Stadium.

Kayode Odejayi from Colchester joined the Millers on this day in the past with Manager Steve Evans saying that the Millers had fought off a number of clubs to sign the tall defender.

15 May 2011

On this day in 2011 we told everyone that Vital Rotherham’s Player of the Season was goalkeeper Andy Warrington.

15 May 2010

The Millers were hoping to get to the Play-Off Final on this day in 2010 with Manager Ronnie Moore saying that if that happened then they’d done it the hard way saying, ‘Playing at Don Valley, which isn’t a football ground, means that home advantage is taken away from us through no fault of our own. It is difficult for players to motivate themselves to play there.’

And later that evening Adam Le Fondre put the Millers that little bit nearer a Wembley appearance when he scored the only goal of the game two minutes from time against Aldershot at the EBB Stadium.

15 May 2009

On this day seven years ago Rotherham United announced that the bright yellow away kit from the season just finishing would be changed to a pale blue shirt with a round net and white trim.

Millers Manager, Mark Robins, told us Millers fans that he was ‘sorry’ that he’d had to let youngsters Marc Newsham and Jamie Yates go.

New ‘boy’ Kevin Ellison who had signed earlier in the week told us that he already had friends at Rotherham as he knew Danny Harrison, Mark Joseph and Mark Lynch. He also said he was impressed with the set-up at Rotherham.

15 May 2008

On this day in 2008 we were all wondering where we would be playing next season. The Millers had been in administration since November and Tony Stewart was waiting to take over the reigns and sort things out.

15 May 2007

We found out on this day that Manager Mark Robins was close to fetching in twenty-year old striker Tom Cahill from Matlock Town.

15 May 1984

Thirty-two years ago today the Millers entertained Scunthorpe at Millmoor in Division Three. Rotherham won the game three-nil with goals from Alan Birch, Tony Simmons and an og.

15 May 1982

The 1981/2 season finished on this day with the Millers travelling to Wales to take on Wrexham. Wrexham won the game three-two with the Millers goals coming from Ronnie Moore and Paul Stancliffe.

15 May 1943

In 1943 the Millers were in the North Regional League and on this day beat Barnsley by five goals to three. Mills scored four goals and Ford one.
