Rotherham United striker, Richie Barker, announced his retirement last week, due to injury. But, Richie hasn’t been slacking recently and he has gone a long way to getting his coaching badges and has been working with the Sheffield United Academy.

Speaking to the Football League’s Official Site, Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas, said, ‘Up until his knee operation Richie thought he had another two years playing ahead of him. This wasn’t to be but luckily he had already started the process of planning for his future. We have discussed the possibility of a coaching role with Rotherham but we are a small club with a small budget and we didn’t have positions that we could create.

‘Richie is a very intelligent chap and has the ability to analyse situations and he will make a top manager. He is not someone who will fall back on others to help him.’
