Rotherham United’s Joe Newell is hoping to win his race to be fit in time for this evening’s game against neighbours Sheffield Wednesday.

Joe, who has been suffering with an ankle injury, told MillersPlayer, ‘I trained for the first time yesterday and it was good to get a bit of a run around. It was a good session and I enjoyed it.

‘As soon as the Gaffer came here I was in the treatment room so I’ve not been working with him as much as everyone else but he has given me advice and spoken to me about my injury. If he calls upon me to play then I’ll do my best.

‘Derbies always have a bit of an edge and obviously it’s a night game on the TV so everyone is excited. We’re the home team so the pressure is on us to get at them quickly.

‘It’s come quickly after the Tuesday night game but that might be a good thing but I’m sure everyone will be buzzing and the tempo here is high.’
