Rotherham United Manager Neil Redfearn was pleased with the young Reserve side the Millers put out against Hartlepool yesterday, despite losing three-two to Hartlepool after being two goals in front.

Speaking to the Official Site the new Millers Boss said he thought it was an outstanding performance.

‘I thought it was a really close game,’ Neil said, ‘and that we did some very good things. We’ve got some bright young players and I was incredibly pleased.

‘The ability, the technique and the know-how of the lads was good. We looked organised and looked bright going forward. They had top players for our young players to be playing against and I think we knew we were always going to be giving a little bit away physically because they had years on us and, in the end, that told.

The only player with any first team experience yesterday was forward Jerry Yates and that’s just five minutes from the bench last season. All the other lads were from the Millers Academy

‘Young Jerry did very well,’ his new Manager said ‘and got hold of the ball.’
