Rotherham United have had a few problems recently with injuries but the one that is obviously causing the most concern at the moment is skipper, Ryan Cresswell.

The twenty-two year old has been suffering from a back problem recently and didn’t make the second half of the game against Oxford at Don Valley last weekend. He declared himself fit for the game at York on Wednesday evening only to pull up in the pre-match warm up with Luke Ashworth having to come in as a last minute replacement.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, ahead of tomorrow’s game at Gresty Road, Assistant Manager, Jimmy Mullen said, ‘We obviously know we have a problem with Ryan’s back and Denis (Circuit) will be assessing things later today with a view to seeing what the situation is with the game against Crewe. It seems to flare up when he does certain things so we’ll have to wait and see what Denis says later.’

Asked about other injuries, Jimmy said, ‘Tom Pope has been missing for a few days with a tonsil and throat virus so we’ll have to wait and see about him too.

‘It was good to have Johnny Mullins back as quickly as we have done and it gives us a bit of a dilemma at right back now he’s fit and having Danny Coid here, but it’s a nice dilemma to have, having two quality players fighting for one position. We also know that Johnny can do a job as centre-back if needed.’

Asked about getting someone in, Jimmy said, ‘Yesterday was an almighty day in terms of phone calls but disappointedly because of injury situations at other clubs or suspended players, it means we haven’t really fulfilled what we’ve tried to do. But, we’ll keep trying and we are always on the look out to strengthen and with the situation we have now with the injuries, especially Ryan who if we know he’s going to be out for a while, we will be looking for someone to come in to strengthen that position.’
