RUFC – Moore post Peterborough

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore said that he couldn`t fault the effort of his players after last nights four-one defeat in the Carling Cup at London Road.

‘It was always going to be a tough game,` Moore told MillersPlayer,` but for more than half an hour we more than held our own.

‘Their front three were fantastic, but to get done with two soccer punches, well we`ve killed ourselves, it was self inflicted. There was a long ball in the box and we`ve not defended it and the lads got a free header and then we fell asleep, there`s a quick corner and back of the net. It was disappointing because the lad marking him allowed him to lean into him and get right up to him which is just one of those things, but, it`s the second time that`s happened and he`s got to learn that he`s got to get his body in, got to fight, got to claw and stop them from getting free headers.

‘So, all of a sudden from being one up and looking OK we`re two-one down. And in the second half their full backs got forward more but we knew it was always going to be difficult.

‘You can`t fault the effort but we have to move the ball better. We kept the ball well in the first half but we were always under the cosh in the second half. Our lads are fit but we`ve wasted a lot of energy today because, instead of keeping the ball and being composed on it, we`re chasing. I thought there was a lot of positives in the first half but a game is ninety minutes.

‘But, like I say, we won`t come up against an attacking force like that but we proved if we got at them there was a few little half chances for us but, at this level, you have to take them when they come.’
